Here, we see the Colosseum from the outside at dusk. The iconic arches and three levels are clearly visible. Even though it looks magnificent, the Colosseum is only a skeleton of its former self.

Colosseum arena photo
This is the Colosseum Arena, a wooden reconstruction of its former self. Today, you are still able to access and stand on the arena floor with a VIP Colosseum Arena Tour. Also visible is the remains of the Colosseum seating towards the bottom right of the photo.

Here, you can see the Colosseum’s underground, an intricate labyrinth of tunnels used to house the gladiators and wild animals during Roman times. This system included amazing engineering feats, such as trap doors leading up to the arena floor.
